Using numbered key tags:
Key tags are numbered so that each key has a specific, defined spot in the key cabinet.  If a key or key set is out, then this is obvious by the non-consecutively numbered tags that remain in the cabinet.  This can be highlighted further by placing a bright yellow "out key" tag in place of the removed key tag / key.  This system allows for improved control of keys when control of assets - say, a vehicle fleet, or room access - is maintained centrally.
About Key Tags:
Most key tags in commercial application are used with key cabinets.  Most key tags are mounted for storage in key cabinets in one of two ways: the keys can either be hung on a series of horizontal bars inside the cabinet (as with this product), or on a series of hooks inside the cabinet.  The slot on this item's tag is used to slide over the bar, so the ring and the keys hang off the slotted tag below the bar.  Most slotted tags purchases separately are white and unnumbered, but as the tags included with this cabinet have a known, defined purpose, they have been pre-numbered for maximum key control and auditability.  If a slotted tag isn't used, then the ring itself is hung from a hook.  In this case, the two most popular options are window tags or ring tags.
